Meet my Valentine!

Baer, my youngest, is almost 10 months old (!).  He is really starting to show his spunky and sweet personality these days.  I set up a quick Valentine’s Day mini session up in my living room a couple of weeks ago — and I’m so glad I did!  He was really hamming it up and showing off his new toothy smile.  It is so fun to capture and share these small milestones!

Taking better pictures of your own kids:

With cameras and phones so available — everyone is taking pictures daily.  If you take photos of your kids at home and want to step up your game here are some of my quick tips for taking better photos.

It all comes down to two things:  background and lighting!

• Find and use a clean, clutter-free background!  I move stuff around my house temporarily just to have a clear spot to take a picture.  It makes such a huge difference.  Just push that chair or table aside for a few minutes!
• Use the room with the most EVEN natural light.
  • Avoid direct sunlight shining on your subjects
  • Turn off your overhead and accent lighting
  • And lastly, open up those doors!

Practice, practice, practice!

The great thing about living in the digital world is that you can take a few pictures and see what works (and delete what doesn’t!!).  Gone are the days of 24 exposures on film before you run out!  Use that to your advantage and experiment with the lighting and backgrounds in your home.

Before you know it, you’ll have a go-to spot to snap a quick picture of your kids before they run off to school on a special day, like Valentine’s day!
